The Dakota culture changed greatly throughout the 19th century in many ways. The Dakota, being a people who were very centered on the value of honor and the family underwent a transformation with the coming of the white man. Undisturbed the Dakota were very apt to existin .... Part II of Essay .... for the sake of killing some one, to do so would be dishonorable. This style of battle highlighted the fact that the Sioux people were not savage killers, but simply fighters for peace. The reason that this tactic did not work on the whites was because the white man’s ethic of fighting was no where near the ethics of the Sioux. White man believed that they had a given right to annihilate anyone they wanted. This is why the tactics of the Sioux people were not successful when it came to fighting off the whites of the time.
