Martin Luther King, Jr. was born in 1929 and throughout his life he became a very important figure to the people of our Nation. In the third paragraph, he is using personification. He declares, “We have come to our nation's Capital to cash a check” (King, 1996, p. 358). A Capital is not a bank and therefore it cannot cash a check. Rev. King is comparing this to the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.
