.... vivid and imaginative from a period in time that seemed to be lacking excitement The story has a lot of gore that is explained very detailed, especially when Grendel attacks, "Grendel snatched at the first Geat he came to, ripped him apart, cut his body to bits with powerful jaws, drank the blood from his veins and bolted him down..." There is an exaggerated fight near the end that puts good against evil, a cliché ending to medieval action stories. The battle is fought by a superhuman fighter and Grendel a monster from the depths of hell ....
